I’m Still Here!: Exciting News, What I’m Reading & What’s Coming Up!

Hi everyone!

Sorry I’ve been MIA again, but I promise I have a good reason… ๐Ÿ™‚

My boyfriend proposed a couple weeks ago!ย  And it was at the spot we had our first date in Hyde Park which made it even more special. So we have been doing a crazy amount of wedding planning… especially since the wedding is in September. We have been planning everything for a few months now but since we wanted to pick out the engagement ring together (we went to a store called 77Diamonds in London which was absolutely amazing!), so we decided to keep the whole thing under wraps until we were officially engaged. So now I get to scream about it to the world! I’m getting married!!

London heat wave making my fingers puffy.

So if I ever seem like I’m disappearing on occasion within the next couple months, I’m probably picking out flowers or looking at photography packages and trying to coordinate it all with my mom back in Canada. We have something really exciting planned for the wedding which I may or may not mention on here before our big day. Surprises are more fun, aren’t they? ๐Ÿ™‚

Another thing slightly distracting me from blogging recently has been my determination to eat a better-balanced diet and get some exercise. I’ve watched my weight creep up over the past year and I wanted to do something about it before it got out of hand. So today marks 2 months of tracking my calories in My Fitness Pal and focusing on having a healthier lifestyle. And it’s working! I’m already starting to feel better and I’ve shed a full 14 pounds. The wedding is certainly a motivator, but I’ve also got the honeymoon (potentially somewhere that requires a bathing suit — nightmare!) to keep me going as well!

Oh, and I also bought FFX/FFX2 and too many other games during the Steam summer sale. Hello nostalgia, goodbye potentially productive hours in the day.

But I am of course still reading! I finished Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman (review coming soon!) and I’ve been reading Stephen King’s new book The Outsider in the evenings this past week. My to-read stack keeps growing at a frightening pace and I’ll never get to all the books I planned to read before the end of the summer, especially since I can’t stop buying books. It’s becoming a problem, is there a support group for this?

July Buys

My recent book buys have been The Outsider, I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman and The Book of M byย Peng Shepherd (thanks to so many positive reviews by other book bloggers!).

The Outsider is really good so far but what was a crime/thriller novel has started to verge on being more horror-fueled, so I’ve switched to reading it mostly during the day while I read Eleanor Oliphant before bed. I love Stephenย King novels and it’s typically his short stories (and The Shining) that give me the heebie-jeebies, but there was a particular moment in The Outsider that made me go ‘this is now a daytime only book’.

I’ve taken today off work to get caught up on me-stuff, mostly reading and blogging and a little housework. So I’m aiming to make some progress and get a few posts scheduled for the next couple weeks. I’m debating between two different Alice inspired books for my July Curiouser and Curiouser review, so I’ll likely start one of them within the next few days. Thank you for your patience, I promise to get more content out soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you! I hope so too ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m definitely having a no-wedding-planning day today so I can relax a bit. I’ll get back at it over the weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

Congratulations, that’s wonderful news, not to mention a very excellent reason to disappear from blogging, haha! I hope everything goes wonderfully smooth, and that you can find some time to yourself to relax in between all the chaos.

Thanks so much! I thought it was a pretty good excuse haha. I definitely aim to still relax when I can, once the big stuff is out of the way then it should be relatively smooth sailing! ๐Ÿ™‚

Congratulations! That are certainly exciting news! And totally understandable that blogging isnโ€™t the priority right now. I hope you have a lovely time and fun preparing the wedding and donโ€™t stress too much ๐Ÿงก

Thank you! Trying not to stress, I’m doing okay with that most times. It all occasionally feels very overwhelming but it’s going to be soo worth it in the end. ๐Ÿ™‚

I saw the engagement photo on your IG and Iโ€™m SOO happy for you!! Congrats!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ And your fiancรฉ is a cutie for proposing at the same place you had your first date. Thatโ€™s so precious!! And itโ€™s ok to take a break from blogging/writing, especially for that reason. At least youโ€™re still reading! โค๏ธ

It was so sweet of him to think of doing it there! I had no idea he was going to ask that day, I thought we were just going shopping on Oxford Street for the afternoon and we took a quick detour over the Hyde Park. It was so perfect ๐Ÿ™‚ And thank you again!! <3

    Congratulations Ashley!

Hope you enjoyed Norse mythology. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ€ I loved Eleanor and hope youโ€™ll enjoy it too. Good luck with the planning and preparations. Iโ€™m sure it will be an amazing wedding. โค๏ธ

Thank you!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hopefully I’ll get the review up today or tomorrow for Norse Mythology! I’m working on finishing it right now. Eleanor is a really delightful book, I’m having a great time reading it. It isn’t normally something I would choose to read but everyone seemed to like it so much, and now I can see why!

Can I join the support group with you!? I literally have the same problem! I’m so glad that you’re enjoy Stephen King’s new book! I saw the book when I was at the airport, and I told myself that I wanted to get a copy once I made my stack of books go down. Congrats on getting engaged! Can’t wait to hear about everything soon ๐Ÿ™‚ xx
